What is a knowledge panel?
A knowledge panel is the box summarising an entity, drawn from the knowledge graph and other sources. For a business it typically shows name, category, location, hours, reviews and links. For local businesses the profile-driven panel is closely tied to Google Business Profile.
What earns a knowledge panel?
What earns a knowledge panel is recognition by the engine, and that recognition is not something a business can apply for. Sufficient confidence in the entity, supported by consistent corroborating sources. There is no application process for the general case, and no reliable trick.
What you can do is make yourself unambiguous: consistent facts everywhere, a clear entity home, controlled properties linked from it.
Why is a knowledge panel a symptom rather than a lever?
A knowledge panel is a symptom of recognition rather than a lever you can pull. Chasing a panel directly is the wrong framing. The panel appears because the engine became confident about you, so the work is the confidence, and the panel follows or it does not.
How do you check your own knowledge panel?
Search your exact business name signed out. Then read what sits beside or above the results, because both outcomes tell you something. A panel that appears says one thing about how well the engine knows you, and a panel that never appears says another.
| What the search shows | How we read it, and what to do next |
|---|---|
| A panel appears | If a panel appears, check every fact in it, panels can carry stale information drawn from sources you have since corrected. |
| No panel appears | If no panel appears, that is information too: the engine has not reached confidence about you yet. |
Rankings are never guaranteed. Anything we could not trace to a primary source is absent from this page, not estimated. The audit runs the same six layers described on the pricing page, and Share of Answer is scored quarterly.
