AI Search Optimization for Raleigh Home-Service Companies

Raleigh contractors don't get the same AI answers as their neighbors in Durham, and in Raleigh, ChatGPT named businesses from Google's local pack far more often than the ones leading Google Maps. Mindflow helps Raleigh companies keep the facts those answers check accurate. Your plan for SEO in Raleigh covers that work at no added cost.

Do AI answers treat Raleigh and Durham the same?

No. We checked them as separate metros in October 2026. ChatGPT named 6 of the 24 Raleigh businesses in the Google Maps top three across eight trades, against 12 of 24 in Durham. Only 2 Raleigh businesses made all three lists (Maps top three, local pack and ChatGPT), against 8 in Durham.

Across all 50 metros, ChatGPT named 352 of 1,183 Maps leaders. The Triangle shows how much that can vary between markets a short drive apart. "ChatGPT" here means the OpenAI API with web search, asked five times per trade, not the ChatGPT app, and each metro was checked from one downtown map pin.

Which Raleigh businesses did ChatGPT name?

Mostly the ones in Google's local pack. ChatGPT named 14 of the 24 Raleigh local pack businesses, more than twice the 6 Maps leaders it named, and only 8 of the 24 Maps leaders were in the local pack at all. Plumbing stood out: all 3 local pack plumbers were named.

For a Raleigh company, the pattern points one way: appearing in the local pack went with being named far more often than leading the map did. That's an association from one sample, not a rule.

What should a Raleigh HVAC or plumbing company check on the state board's lookup?

North Carolina licenses plumbing, HVAC, fuel gas piping and fire sprinkler contractors through its Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors. Its Verify License Search takes a company name, license number, phone number or address, and its classifications run from Plumbing Class I and II to Heating Groups 1, 2 and 3.

Search your company the way a customer would, by the name on your trucks:

  • The namethe record should come up under the name on your site and Business Profile. The search has an "include like sounding names" option, but don't rely on it.
  • The classificationshow it on your site as the record states it, beside your license number.
  • Every license you holda plumbing and heating company may hold several classifications; list each one.

Across our study, answers about named HVAC companies cited a government or licensing site in 1,243 of 1,500 cases and manufacturer or certification sources, such as equipment makers' dealer listings, in 411. In Raleigh, ChatGPT named 2 of 3 local pack HVAC companies and none of the Maps leaders.

NC State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors, site and Verify License Search, read November 1, 2026. This isn't legal advice; the board decides which classification your work needs. Citation counts: what ChatGPT checks before recommending a contractor.

How does Mindflow handle AI search for a Raleigh company?

We start where Raleigh's data points: your place in the local pack. Then we make the records AI tools read agree with each other, and build the pages they can cite. This is part of your SEO plan, not a separate service, and the full scope is on our AI search optimization page.

  • Your Business Profilethe right categories, your real service area, photos of your own work and a steady flow of reviews, sent from your own system.
  • Your recordsyour board record, BBB profile and listings compared with your site. We fix what we manage and flag the rest for you.
  • Your pagesone for each service, with the classification and license number where customers check.
  • Your reporta written report every month, with what AI tools said about you, dated, kept apart from the calls and estimate requests your records show.

No one, us included, can promise you'll be named in an AI answer. What we can do is show you each month what those answers say.

Questions about AI search in Raleigh

Raleigh roofers did well in your check. Will that last?
Maybe not. ChatGPT named 2 of the 3 Raleigh roofers leading Google Maps, against 45 of 147 across all 50 metros, but that was one search on one day with five answers. "Named" isn't a stable ranking, and the results can shift as models and the web change. Treat it as a reason to keep your roofing facts accurate, not as something to coast on.
ChatGPT named more Durham Maps leaders. Should a Raleigh company go after Durham?
Not because of these numbers. They describe which businesses ChatGPT named in each metro on one day, not where the jobs are. Go after Durham only if you really work there and can show it with jobs, reviews and a page for the work. A Raleigh company's first job is to be named for the searches it already serves.
Why did ChatGPT name all three Raleigh plumbers in the local pack but only one Maps leader?
Our study doesn't show why. It does show where plumbing answers looked: across all 50 metros, answers about named plumbers cited a review site or directory in 1,478 of 1,500 cases. A Raleigh plumber with accurate listings and recent reviews on those sites gives an AI answer something to confirm.
We do electrical work and HVAC in Raleigh. Is one license record enough?
Usually not. North Carolina has separate boards: the Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors for electrical work, and the plumbing, heating and fire sprinkler board for HVAC. Each record should carry the same business name, and your site should show both. Which licenses your work needs is for each board to say; this isn't legal advice.
Raleigh's local pack mattered more in your data. Is the local pack all we need?
No. ChatGPT also named 6 Maps leaders, and AI answers about a named company check other sources too: review sites, the BBB, license records and your own site. The local pack is where Raleigh's data says to start, not where the work ends.
How long does SEO take?
Usually months, not weeks. How fast depends on your competitors and on how complete your Business Profile and site are today.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No. No one can guarantee a spot on Google or in an AI answer. We show you the work and the results.
Is AI SEO extra?
No. AI search optimization is included in SEO in every plan.
Am I locked into a contract?
The first 90 days are committed and billed monthly. After that it's month to month with 30 days' notice.
Who owns my accounts and website?
You do. Every account stays in your name, and website files and copy are yours once paid.
Will you work with my competitor?
No. We won't work with your direct competitor in your area.
Do I need a new website?
Not always. If yours can't turn visits into calls, we'll say so and quote a site separately.
Do you run Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads?
Case by case. Our plans cover SEO, AI search, your Google Business Profile, reviews and conversion. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal. Ad spend goes to the platform and isn't part of our fee.
