Quick answer

What does marketing for a handyman business need to do?

A handyman business runs on many small jobs, so marketing has to bring a steady stream of the right ones: work you're allowed and equipped to do, close enough to be worth the drive. That takes a clear list of services, a Business Profile that matches it and an easy way to send a job from a phone.

What makes handyman marketing different?

Handyman work is broad, small and steady. One business can fix a door, mount a TV and patch drywall in a day, demand barely changes with the seasons, and the rules on work without a contractor's license differ by state. We build your pages and profile around all three.

  • Many services, one profile.Homeowners may search for "handyman" or for the job itself. We group your services into clear pages and match them to the services on your Business Profile, so each job type has a place to land.
  • Small jobs need a short path.Nobody fills in a long form to fix a sticking door. A call button, a short request form and fast replies matter more than a long sales page.
  • Demand is steady, so reviews matter all year. With no real off-season, a steady flow of recent reviews keeps you credible every month. We help you ask every customer from your own system.
  • What you can advertise depends on your state.Licensing limits shape which jobs you can list. We build pages only for work you confirm you can take.
  • Drive time eats margin.Town pages go where you want the work, not everywhere you could reach.
  • One fix often leads to the next.A homeowner happy with one repair may have a list. Clear service pages and an easy way to rebook help that list come back to you.

How many people search for a handyman, and when?

Across the US, "handyman" averages about 165,000 Google searches a month and "handyman services" about 49,500. Demand is steady: on a four-year average July is the busiest month and December the quietest, with only about 1.3 times between them, the smallest swing of the seven trades we checked this way.

The busiest month moved from July in 2023 to May in 2024 and March in 2025, and in 2025 the quietest months were May and July. For a handyman business, there's no off-season to wait for: being found every week matters more than timing one rush.

Source: Mindflow research, Google Ads search-volume estimates, average monthly searches for the 12 months to September 2026; seasons from October 2022 to September 2026. The seven trades compared: landscaping, painting, pools, home inspection, tree service, handyman and paving. City figures count searches inside city limits, not suburbs. Estimates are rounded, and searches aren't booked jobs. Our 50-metro study covers 8 other trades, not handyman work. How we read seasons: when home-service demand peaks.

Which jobs can a handyman business advertise?

Only the ones you're allowed to do where you work. States set limits on work done without a contractor's license, and the limits differ. Your pages, profile services and any ads should list the jobs you can legally take, so the calls you attract are calls you can accept.

California is one example. Since January 1, 2025, California law (AB 2622) lets an unlicensed person take work up to $1,000, but not work that needs a permit of any kind and not with hired workers, and any ad must say the person isn't licensed. Other states draw the line differently, so check with your state's licensing board.

Buyers and AI tools look at records, too. We didn't study handyman businesses, but in 8 other home-service trades, 10,288 of ChatGPT's 11,982 answers about named contractors cited a government or licensing site. If you hold a license, it should be easy to match to the state record; if you don't, your pages shouldn't suggest one. See how ChatGPT checks contractors.

What this means for you: we build pages only for services you confirm you can offer, word them the way your state requires, and keep licensed-trade work such as electrical or plumbing off your list unless you hold the license your state requires. We don't give legal advice; your licensing board does.

What goes on a handyman business's website and profile?

A homeowner with a small job wants to know you do that job, in their neighborhood, and how fast they can reach you. Start here. Most of it fits on the site you already have, and we'd quote a new site separately only if yours can't take these changes.

  1. Pages for the job types you want more of, grouped sensibly (repairs, installs, drywall and paint touch-ups), with your own photos.
  2. Pages for the neighborhoods and towns you serve, where the drive is worth it.
  3. Business Profile services that match your pages, so the jobs you list on your site are the jobs Google shows.
  4. A short request form and a call button on every page, with calls and forms tracked.
  5. Review requests after every visit, sent from your own system, so even a 30-minute fix can turn into a review. We draft the replies for your approval.
  6. Clear answers on how you workminimum visit, how you quote small jobs and what you don't do, in your own words.

The work

Have you worked with handyman businesses before?
Our published client story is Precision Fenceworks, a Georgia fence company we've worked with for 8 years. We haven't published a handyman story, and our 50-metro study doesn't cover the trade. For handyman work we start from search data like the table above and from which of your services your Business Profile leaves out. The free review is a no-cost look at your profile, reviews and Maps position.
We're a one- or two-person shop. Is this for us?
Our plans start at $2,800 a month for one metro and one service area, so they fit businesses with steady demand and room for more work. If that's more than you want to spend now, the Audit & Roadmap ($1,500 for one metro) gives you a full audit and a 90-day plan you can run yourself. The free review costs nothing.
Should we list every service we do?
List the ones you want more of and can do well. A long list of thin pages is harder for buyers and search tools to read than a few clear ones. We group related jobs, give your main services their own pages and keep jobs you'd rather not take off your profile.
Do I need a new website?
Not always. If yours can't turn visits into calls, we'll say so and quote a site separately.

Cost and terms

We're a licensed contractor who also takes small jobs. Does that change anything?
It helps. A license is a record buyers and AI tools can check, so we show it as text that matches your state's record and use it on the pages for licensed work. We keep small repairs and larger licensed jobs on separate pages, so each buyer finds the right one.
Do you sell handyman leads?
No. On a lead service, the same small-job request can go to several handymen. Requests that come through your own profile, site and reviews are yours alone, and Mindflow doesn't sell or share them. Our leads and ads guides compare the options if you buy leads today.
Am I locked into a contract?
The first 90 days are committed and billed monthly. After that it's month to month with 30 days' notice.
Who owns my accounts and website?
You do. Every account stays in your name, and website files and copy are yours once paid.
Will you work with my competitor?
No. We won't work with your direct competitor in your area.
Do you run Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads?
Case by case. Our plans cover SEO, AI search, your Google Business Profile, reviews and conversion. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal. Ad spend goes to the platform and isn't part of our fee.

AI and results

How long does SEO take?
Usually months, not weeks. How fast depends on your competitors and on how complete your Business Profile and site are today.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No. No one can guarantee a spot on Google or in an AI answer. We show you the work and the results.
Is AI SEO extra?
No. AI search optimization is included in SEO in every plan.
