Quick answer

What does marketing for a painting company need to do?

Painting buyers judge with their eyes and check who is coming into their home. Before they ask for an estimate, they look at finished rooms and exteriors like theirs, read reviews and check that you cover their town. Marketing for a painting company shows that work by job type and town and makes the estimate request easy on a phone.

What makes painting marketing different?

Painting covers very different jobs: a bedroom repaint, a full exterior, cabinets, an office repainted after hours. Older homes bring federal lead-safe rules, and the busiest months shift from year to year. We plan your pages and Business Profile around the painting work you want more of.

  • More people search for the job than for a painter.Far more people search "interior painting" (about 90,500 a month nationally) than "house painters" (about 8,100); "painting contractor" sits between them at about 22,200. Interior, exterior and commercial painting each get their own page and photos, because the buyer and the questions differ.
  • Photos do the selling.Buyers want to see rooms, trim and exteriors like theirs. We organize your real project photos by job type and town. Any illustration we add is clearly an illustration, never a fake job photo.
  • Older homes come with lead-safe rules.Under the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, in general, anyone paid to disturb paint in homes and child-occupied facilities built before 1978 must be certified, with some exceptions, such as small repairs. The EPA also says firms can't advertise that covered work without firm certification. If your firm is certified, we make that easy to find on your site and profile.
  • Exterior work follows the weather. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that outdoor painting jobs may be seasonal. Interior work can fill the gaps, so we keep both kinds of page current all year.
  • Commercial buyers want different proof.Property managers and business owners ask about schedules, crews and insurance. If you want commercial work, it gets a page written for them.
  • Google lists "Painter" as an ad category.Painters are among the categories eligible for Google's Local Services Ads. Whether ads fit a painting company's market and season is a case-by-case call; our Local Services Ads guide explains how they work.

What goes on a painting company's website?

A painting buyer wants to see work like theirs, near them, and to ask for an estimate without a phone call if they prefer. These are the pages and proof we build or improve first. Your site doesn't need to be new; it needs your photos and services organized the way painting buyers look for them.

  1. A page for each kind of painting you want more ofinterior, exterior, commercial, cabinets, each with your own project photos.
  2. Pages for the towns you serve, with jobs there you're happy to show.
  3. An estimate request that works on a phone and asks only what you need. We check that calls and forms are tracked.
  4. Your lead-safe certification and license details, where they apply, in plain words.
  5. An honest review-request process, with replies under the approval setting you choose.

Which records should a painter keep consistent for ChatGPT and buyers?

Your BBB profile, licensing records and website, plus your lead-safe certification if you work on older homes. We haven't measured painting, but across the eight trades in our 50-metro study, ChatGPT cited those three kinds of source in most of 11,982 answers about named contractors. A painter's certification belongs in the same consistent set.

Source cited in the answerAnswers (of 11,982)
Better Business Bureau10,582
Government or licensing site (state boards, business registries)10,288
The company's own website9,557

Source: Mindflow research, OpenAI API with web search, October 2026; answers to "Are they legit and good to hire?" about named businesses in the eight trades of our 50-metro study (electrical, garage door, HVAC, pest control, plumbing, remodeling, roofing, water damage). Painting wasn't among them. More in what ChatGPT checks before recommending a contractor.

What this means for you: if you work on pre-1978 homes, your EPA firm certification, any state license or registration, your BBB profile and your website should name the same business and agree with your Business Profile. In our 50-metro study, ChatGPT named 352 of the 1,183 businesses in the Google Maps top three when asked who to call, so a strong map position doesn't carry over by itself.

How many people search for "house painters" in your city?

Not many use that exact phrase: Houston leads the cities we checked at about 110 searches a month inside city limits. Of the three searches we tracked, "interior painting" is the biggest nationally; it averaged about 590 a month in Atlanta and 390 in Jacksonville. City limits only, so a metro's total is larger.

Not shown: Nashville, which had one unusual month. For "interior painting", eight of the ten cities had one unusual month in the last year, so we show only Atlanta and Jacksonville above.

Source: Google Ads search-volume estimates, average monthly searches for the 12 months to September 2026, city limits only; estimates are rounded. Searches aren't booked jobs.

When do painting searches peak?

It changes from year to year. US painting searches were highest in November in 2023, August in 2024 and November again in 2025. The quietest month fell in winter each year. So we plan around your own market's pattern and your mix of interior and exterior work, not a fixed calendar.

YearBusiest monthQuietest month
2023NovemberFebruary and March (tied)
2024AugustDecember
2025NovemberJanuary

A four-year monthly average would point to May, but that average is lifted by one unusual month: May 2026, at 4.6 times the median month. One month like that isn't a season, so we don't plan around it.

Before we talk

Questions painting contractors ask

Can you help us win more commercial painting work?
Yes, if you want it. A property manager or business owner needs to know you can paint around tenants, after hours or on weekends, with a crew that's insured. We give commercial painting its own page with those answers and your commercial project photos. We can't promise how many bids you'll win.
Can you market cabinet painting or other specialty work separately?
Yes, if you want more of it. Each line of work gets its own page and its own service on your Business Profile, so people searching for it land on the right page. How many service lines you want to grow is one of the things that sets your price.
We're lead-safe certified. Should that be on our site?
Yes. If you work on homes built before 1978, the EPA's rule in general requires firm certification for paid work that disturbs paint, and firms can't advertise that work without it. A certification nobody can find does little for you. We show it on your service pages and Business Profile in plain words, alongside your license details where your state requires one.
Have you worked with painting companies before?
Our published client story is Precision Fenceworks, a Georgia fence company we've worked with for 8 years; its CEO describes the results on this page. We haven't published a painting story. In the free review we look at your own market: how you show for searches like "interior painting" in your towns, your Business Profile, your reviews and what ChatGPT says about you.
Should I keep buying painting leads?
That's your call; it's a different model. A lead service can send the same repaint request to several painters. We help generate estimate requests through your own Google Business Profile, website and reviews, and Mindflow doesn't sell or share those inquiries. Your monthly report shows what your tracking records.
How long does SEO take?
Usually months, not weeks. How fast depends on your competitors and on how complete your Business Profile and site are today.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No. No one can guarantee a spot on Google or in an AI answer. We show you the work and the results.
Is AI SEO extra?
No. AI search optimization is included in SEO in every plan.
Am I locked into a contract?
The first 90 days are committed and billed monthly. After that it's month to month with 30 days' notice.
Who owns my accounts and website?
You do. Every account stays in your name, and website files and copy are yours once paid.
Will you work with my competitor?
No. We won't work with your direct competitor in your area.
Do I need a new website?
Not always. If yours can't turn visits into calls, we'll say so and quote a site separately.
Do you run Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads?
Case by case. Our plans cover SEO, AI search, your Google Business Profile, reviews and conversion. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal. Ad spend goes to the platform and isn't part of our fee.
