Which pages does a painting contractor's website need?
A painting site needs a page for each kind of work you want more of, project photos sorted by job type and town, and a town page only where you have real jobs to show. Painting wasn't one of the trades in our website crawl, so this page map comes from what painting buyers search and from Google's own rules.
| Page | What it answers | What it needs |
|---|
| Interior painting | Searches like "interior painting" and "interior painters near me" | Room photos, how you protect floors and furniture, how long a typical room takes |
| Exterior painting | Searches like "exterior house painting" | Siding and trim photos, prep and repairs, how weather affects the schedule |
| Cabinet painting | Searches like "cabinet painting" | Before-and-after photos, finish options, how long the kitchen is out of use |
| Commercial painting | Searches like "commercial painting contractor" | Work around tenants or after hours, crew and insurance details, commercial photos |
| Town pages | Searches like "painters in [town]" | Real jobs in that town, only where you work |
| About and credentials | Searches for your company name | License or registration, lead-safe firm certification if held, insurance, who leads the crew |
Two of Google's rules shape this map. Its spam policies list "pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page" as doorway abuse, so a town page needs real work in that town. Your Business Profile can list up to 20 service areas, and Google says the overall area shouldn't extend farther than about 2 hours of driving from where you're based.
The other trades in our study point the same way. Across eight trades (painting wasn't one), Maps top-three businesses that ChatGPT also named had three or more location pages more often (142 of 323 sites) than those it didn't name (156 of 752). If the site itself needs rebuilding, that's a separate project; see website design.

ChatGPT means the OpenAI API with web search, asked which companies a homeowner should call. An association, not a cause: named businesses also tend to be bigger. How the study was run.
