When does home-service demand peak? Four years of searches, 8 trades, 50 metros

In every trade we measured, the busiest month for searches changed from year to year, so plan around busy stretches and your own market's history, not a calendar date. Two searches kept their season: "AC repair" peaked in June or July in each of 2023, 2024 and 2025, and "furnace repair" in November or December. Pest control searches were lowest between November and February in each of those years. Across seven trades in our metros, the busiest month held up in 175 of 343 city and trade pairs once we set aside the single month with the most searches.

Where do these numbers come from?

Google Ads search-volume estimates for 2 or 3 consumer searches per trade (for example "roof repair", "roofer" and "roof replacement"), for each month from October 2022 to September 2026, for the US and the main city of each of the 50 metros in our Home-Service Visibility Study. We add each trade's searches together, then average each calendar month across the four years. Search volume isn't booked work, and the estimates are rounded.

When does each trade peak nationally, and does it hold year to year?

No, not to the month. On the four-year average each trade has a busiest month, but in every trade a different month came out on top in at least one of 2023, 2024 and 2025. Google rounds these estimates into steps, so months often tie exactly; tied months are all listed. Look at busy and quiet stretches rather than one month. Trades are listed alphabetically, each linked to its full results.

Source: Mindflow research, Google Ads search-volume estimates, US, October 2022 to September 2026. The water damage average is lifted by September 2025, which had about ten times a typical month's searches; plumbing's July average by unusually high Julys in 2023 and 2026.

Why does HVAC have two seasons?

Because homeowners search for the failure, and each failure has its season. "AC repair" searches peaked in June or July in each of 2023, 2024 and 2025, and "furnace repair" in November or December. On the four-year average, AC repair is busiest in July and quietest in December; furnace repair's average lands on January because of a high January 2026, though January wasn't the busiest month in any single year. Added together, the two seasons make the combined HVAC line flatter than either one: it was quietest in September in 2023.

When are searches busiest in each metro?

Often there's no single answer. For seven trades in 49 metros, we found the busiest month on the four-year average, then checked whether it held once the single biggest month was set aside. It held in 175 of 343 pairs. Treat everything else as a busy stretch or an event, not a season.

How to read a cell:

  • A monththe busiest month held with the biggest single month set aside.
  • Two monthsthe lead moved to the next month, so the busy stretch spans both (47 pairs).
  • One-month spikeone month had at least five times a typical month's searches and made that month the busiest (31 pairs).
  • No steady peakthe lead moved to an unrelated month (74 pairs).
  • Tiedtwo months had the same four-year average (2 pairs).
  • Low volumefewer than 150 searches a month on average (14 pairs).

Water damage is left out: its city volumes are small and driven by single events. Cleveland is left out too: in every trade, December 2025 had many times every other month's estimate, which points to a data issue rather than a season.

Quick answer

What does this mean for planning?

Plan from your own market's history, not a national calendar. If you do AC or furnace work, have your pages and Business Profile current before each season turns. In pest control, the quiet stretch from November to February showed up in all three years. In other trades, the busiest month moved from year to year and in many cities hinged on one unusual month, so steady visibility through the year matters more than one seasonal push. The free AI Visibility Review shows where you stand in your own market's map results and AI answers.

What can't these figures tell you?

  • Searches, not jobs.Search volume isn't booked work.
  • Estimates.Google Ads volumes are rounded, and small city volumes are noisy.
  • Short keyword sets.2 or 3 consumer searches per trade.
  • City, not metro.Metro figures count searches located in the main city, not its suburbs.
  • Three full years.Patterns that held in 2023, 2024 and 2025 may not hold next year.
  • Averages hide events.Storms, freezes and heat waves move single months; four-year averages blur them.
