Remodeling PPC

A remodel can take months to sign, so remodeling ads have to be judged on signed projects, not clicks. When Google Ads or Local Services Ads fit your market, they're scoped in your proposal with your SEO, Business Profile, review and conversion work, in accounts that stay in your name.

How do Local Services Ads work for a remodeler?

Google's Local Services list includes Kitchen remodeling, Bathroom remodeling and General contractor, beside narrower categories such as flooring and countertop services. Each is its own industry in your account, with its own job types, and adding one can bring more verification paperwork. In all three, Google checks business and owner background, registration, insurance and state licenses for select users.

SettingWhat Google saysWhat it means for a remodeler
IndustriesWhen you add an industry you toggle on at least one job type, and Google then prompts you to upload "additional verification requirements for the new industry"Add only the project types you sell, and budget time for the paperwork
Job types"When people search for phrases related to these services, your ads will be eligible to appear"Choose the kitchens and baths you want, not the repairs you don't
Broad searchTurning it off "may result in a decrease in leads," and the change applies to all your industriesFewer general "remodeler near me" leads, more specific ones
Wrong-job leadsGoogle "no longer supports credits for 'job type not serviced'" leadsYour job types are the filter; a lead for work you don't do won't be credited

Google Ads search campaigns aren't restricted for remodeling the way garage door ads are, and they give more control over which project searches you pay for and where people land. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal. How Local Services compares with the map is in local SEO vs Local Services Ads.

Google is folding Local Services Ads into Google Ads in stages: select storefront advertisers first, from August 2026, service-area remodelers in late 2026, and any category still waiting in 2027. A migrated account budgets daily rather than weekly, can't set a manual price per lead and no longer goes through license or insurance reverification. Where one campaign held different targets per category, Google merges them into one, so it suggests separate campaigns for categories you'd bid on differently, such as kitchens and baths. See Local Services Ads.

Will Google Ads count a remodel that signs months after the click?

Only inside the conversion window, which Google caps at 90 days. The default for Search is 30 days, and a conversion after the window isn't recorded. A homeowner who clicks in early January, meets your designer in February and signs in late May falls outside even the longest setting. Set the window on purpose and track the rest yourself.

What to track in a remodeling account:

  • The consultation request as the main conversion.Remodelers lean on the phone less than most trades: in our website study, 436 of 584 remodeler homepages had a click-to-call link, against 3,941 of 4,433 across all eight trades. 309 had a form and 52 showed any online booking signal.
  • Signed projects, imported.Upload signed contracts from your records as offline conversions where they land inside the window, so bidding learns which searches turn into real projects. Our Google Ads handbook covers how import works.
  • A second report for long deals. For projects that sign after 90 days, match each lead to its campaign in your own CRM; Google won't record it.
  • Cost per signed project, by project type.Cost per lead is a starting point, but a bathroom and an addition shouldn't share one number.

What does a remodeling ad have to show?

In some states, your license number, and full terms when the ad names a payment. California's license board requires the license number in all forms of advertising, including websites. Federal Truth in Lending rules add disclosures when a credit ad states certain terms, with different triggers for fixed-term loans and revolving or "no interest" plans. Not legal advice.

Ad lineWhat it triggersSource
Any ad from a California-licensed contractorLicense number in "all forms of advertising," which the board says includes "any website or post that solicits business on the Internet"; civil penalty of $100 to $1,000 for a first offense. The guidelines don't mention an exception for short ads.California Contractors State License Board
"$199 a month," "12 easy payments," "10% down" (fixed-term loan)Each is a triggering term for closed-end credit, so the ad must also state the down payment, the repayment terms and the "annual percentage rate"Regulation Z, 12 CFR 1026.24(d)
"No interest until 2027," "No interest if paid in full" (revolving or deferred-interest plan)A statement about when interest begins is itself a triggering term under the open-end rule, which has its own required disclosuresRegulation Z, 12 CFR 1026.16(b) and its official interpretation
"Financing available"A general statement isn't one of the four closed-end triggers, unless it implies a down payment, as "80% financing available" doesRegulation Z, 12 CFR 1026.24(d) and its official interpretation
A low "starting at" price for a kitchenGoogle bans "low estimates that trick customers into booking services" and raising the price on arrivalGoogle's Local Services policies

Financing is common enough to matter: 115 of 584 remodeler homepages in our study mentioned it. A search ad has little room, so the landing page carries most of these details. Other states set their own license rules; contractor license lookup shows how homeowners check yours.

When does paying for remodeling clicks make sense?

When your calendar has room and your project pages can carry a big decision. Remodeling demand is fairly even across the year: in our four-year look at Google search estimates, the national peak month was only about 1.4 times the quietest. So ads work best filling specific gaps in your schedule, sent to pages showing finished work like the buyer's.

Signs ads fit now:

  • Your crews have open weeks in the next two or three months.
  • You have a page for each project type you'd advertise, with your own photos and the towns they're in.
  • Someone follows up on consultation requests the same day.

Signs the map and your pages come first:

  • Few reviews, or reviews that trail competitors in your towns. The study figures for remodelers are on our remodeling marketing page.
  • One page lists every service, so an ad for "bathroom remodel" lands on everything you do.
  • No way to tell which leads signed.

Which comes first in general is in our SEO vs PPC comparison.

What should you ask before hiring a remodeling ads company?

Of seven remodeling PPC agency pages we reviewed on November 1, 2026, none mentioned license numbers or financing rules in ads, one mentioned importing offline conversions, and two said the ad account belongs to the client, one of them only after the first term. Ask these five questions of any company you're considering, and get every answer in writing.

AskWhat to listen for
Which Local Services categories will run: kitchens, baths, general contractor, or Search only?A reason for each, and separate campaigns where you'd bid differently after the move into Google Ads
What counts as a conversion, and what window is set?Consultation requests and signed projects, with the window chosen on purpose
How will projects that sign after 90 days be reported?Matched by campaign in your own records
Who checks license and financing wording before an ad runs?A named person, against your state's rules and your lender's terms
Which project types will the ads run on?Only those you want, each sent to its own page

Questions on account ownership and billing apply to any hire; they're in our Google Ads handbook.

Our answers on ownership, commitment and competitors are in the questions at the end of this page. You deal with Youssef Hodaigui directly: calls and texts are answered as they come in, emails usually within hours.

Case study

Case study: a fence company, from one county to Metro Atlanta

The problem

"we struggled to generate consistent leads online and were invisible in search results."

The work

SEO and web design over an 8-year partnership, plus reputation management.

The results Zack Goekjian (CEO) describes in his testimonial
  • "Within the first year, our website started ranking for competitive keywords like 'Atlanta fence installation' and 'Atlanta fence company'"
  • 250% more qualified leads
  • from 1 county to several across Metro Atlanta
  • from 5 people to 12
  • reputation work that helped maintain a 4.9-star average rating.

These are Zack's own figures from his testimonial, not numbers we measured. Results depend on your market and starting point.

Questions about remodeling PPC

Should kitchen and bathroom remodels have separate campaigns?
If you want both, yes. Google treats them as separate Local Services categories, and buyers search for them in different words. Separate Google Ads campaigns sent to a kitchen page and a bathroom page let you set a budget for each and see what each signed project cost, instead of averaging a small bath with a full kitchen.
Can Local Services Ads screen out small repair jobs?
Partly. You choose job types, and turning off broad search keeps your ad off general category searches, which Google says may cut lead volume. Google no longer credits leads for job types you don't service, so your settings are your main filter. Our lead dispute entry covers what Google still credits.
Can we mention financing in our ads?
Yes, with care. A general line that financing is available isn't a triggering term under the federal Truth in Lending rule. For a fixed-term loan, naming a monthly payment, a number of payments, a down payment or a finance charge means the ad must also state the down payment, repayment terms and APR; revolving and "no interest" plans have their own triggers. Not legal advice; check with your lender.
Should we bid on general searches like "remodeling contractor"?
Test them after your project searches. A general search doesn't say which room, budget or timeline the homeowner has, so it tells you less about the job you'd win. Start with the project types you want most, read the search terms report weekly, and add general terms once tracking shows which projects sign.
How long does SEO take?
Usually months, not weeks. How fast depends on your competitors and on how complete your Business Profile and site are today.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No. No one can guarantee a spot on Google or in an AI answer. We show you the work and the results.
Is AI SEO extra?
No. AI search optimization is included in SEO in every plan.
Am I locked into a contract?
The first 90 days are committed and billed monthly. After that it's month to month with 30 days' notice.
Who owns my accounts and website?
You do. Every account stays in your name, and website files and copy are yours once paid.
Will you work with my competitor?
No. We won't work with your direct competitor in your area.
Do I need a new website?
Not always. If yours can't turn visits into calls, we'll say so and quote a site separately.
Do you run Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads?
Case by case. Our plans cover SEO, AI search, your Google Business Profile, reviews and conversion. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal. Ad spend goes to the platform and isn't part of our fee.
