Quick answer

What does marketing for a remodeling company need to do?

It has to prove fit before the first visit. A homeowner planning a remodel wants to see projects like theirs in nearby towns, the license the job needs, how you handle design, permits and the mess, and reviews that back it all up. Then the consultation request has to be easy to send from a phone.

What makes remodeling marketing different?

Remodeling is several trades sold as one project, and each project type is its own search. The license you need depends on the scope and the state, older homes bring lead-safe rules, and homeowners check you in places other trades rarely see. We plan your pages and profile around those facts.

  • Kitchens, baths and additions are separate searches.Google's US list of Local Services Ads categories names "Kitchen remodeling" and "Bathroom remodeling" separately from "General contractor", and our search data counts "bathroom remodel" and "kitchen remodel" as separate searches. So each project type you want more of needs a page with its own photos, and a matching service on your Business Profile. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal.
  • The license depends on the scope and the state.California's B-2 residential remodeling license covers projects on existing wood-frame homes that use at least three unrelated trades in one contract, and it doesn't allow structural changes to load-bearing walls or installing, replacing or extending electrical, plumbing or mechanical systems without the right license or a licensed subcontractor. Massachusetts regulates home improvement work on existing owner-occupied homes of one to four units, and its law says every contract, building permit and advertisement shall display the contractor's registration number. We put your number where buyers look and wherever your state's rules call for it. Not legal advice; check your own state.
  • Older homes bring lead-safe rules.EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule requires certification for firms, "even sole proprietorships," paid to do work that disturbs paint in homes built before 1978, and EPA gives homeowners a search for lead-safe certified contractors. If your firm holds the certification, it belongs on your site. Not legal advice.
  • The process is part of the sale.A homeowner wants to know what happens between the first visit and demolition: design meetings, selections, who pulls the permit, how long the kitchen is out of use. A page that walks through your process answers that before your estimator drives out, and it shows which projects you take on.

When do homeowners search for remodelers?

All year, with a busy stretch that moves. In our four-year look at Google search estimates, the busiest month on the four-year US average was January and the quietest August, but the busiest was only about 1.4 times the quietest. The single busiest month was January in 2023, a tie between September and October in 2024, and March in 2025.

City patterns differ too. January was the busiest month on average in 18 of the 49 metros we tracked, one of them a tie, including Chicago, Denver, Phoenix and San Antonio. Dallas, Fort Worth and Miami leaned toward May, Houston, Durham and Salt Lake City toward September, and 10 metros showed no steady peak. Across the US, "bathroom remodel" averaged about 135,000 searches a month and "kitchen remodel" about 74,000. Searches aren't booked jobs.

What this means for you: the gap between busy and quiet months is small and the peak moves, so your project pages and profile need to work all year. We time new pages to your own market's history, not to a calendar date. For ways to use a slower stretch, see our remodeling marketing ideas.

How often does ChatGPT name remodelers?

Less often than any of the other seven trades in our 50-metro study. ChatGPT named 28 of the 146 remodelers in Google's Maps top three when asked which companies a homeowner should call, and none in 29 of the 50 metros. Across all eight trades it named 352 of 1,183.

Source: Mindflow research, 50 US metros, October 3–17, 2026, OpenAI API with web search. Question: "Which [trade] companies in [City], [state] should a homeowner call? Name the companies and the sources," asked five times per metro; a business counts as named if it appeared in at least one answer. Full figures: remodeling benchmark.

Reviews don't explain the gap on their own. Among the 593 remodelers in the study with Google reviews, the median had 38 reviews and one new review in the past 90 days. Named Maps leaders had a median of 54.5 reviews against 42 for those not named, which is a difference, not proof of a cause.

What this means for you: a strong map position is worth keeping, but for a remodeler it doesn't carry into AI answers by itself. What's written about you elsewhere has to back it up, and that's the next section.

Where do homeowners and AI tools check a remodeler's record?

In a few places, and two of them stand out for remodeling. When we asked ChatGPT about 750 named remodelers, two answers each, its answers cited a government or licensing site in 1,334 of 1,500, the company's own site in 1,261, the BBB in 1,195, Houzz in 869 and BuildZoom, a permit-history site, in 788.

Houzz is the outlier. Across the other seven trades in the study, it came up in 72 of 10,482 answers. Permit records stand out for a similar reason: many remodels need a permit, and permit-history sites tie those records to a contractor's name. Even when the question was which remodelers to call, with no name given, Houzz came up in 80 of 250 answers and a maker, certification or trade-association site in 58.

So the job is consistency. The business name, towns and project types should read the same on your license or registration record, your Houzz profile if you keep one, your BBB profile, your Business Profile and your site. We keep the listings we manage accurate, flag anything on your license record that doesn't match, and never write reviews for you. More on how buyers check: contractor license lookup and what ChatGPT checks before recommending a contractor.

Source: Mindflow research, October 3–17, 2026, OpenAI API with web search; 1,500 answers about 750 named remodelers ("A friend recommended [Business] in [City, ST]. What can you tell me about them? Are they legit and good to hire?") and 250 who-to-call answers; 11,982 named-business answers across all eight trades.

What goes on a remodeling company's website?

Proof by project type and by town, and the credentials a buyer will look up anyway. Our website study found remodeler sites thinner than other trades' on town pages: only 109 of 659 had three or more location pages, the fewest of the eight trades. We start with what your site is missing and build from your finished projects.

  1. A page for each project type you want more ofkitchens, bathrooms, additions, basements, whole-home work, each with your own photos and the towns they're in.
  2. Project pagesthe type, the town, the scope in plain words and before-and-after photos you approve. One finished kitchen with its story tells a homeowner more than a gallery with no captions.
  3. Town pages for the places you really work, each with projects from that town.
  4. Your license or registration number, in the footer and on the contact page, matching the name on the record. In the study, 244 of 584 remodeler homepages said "licensed", against 2,375 of 4,433 across all eight trades.
  5. Lead-safe certification, if you hold it and work on homes built before 1978.
  6. How a project runsthe first visit, design and selections, permits, the schedule and how you protect the rest of the house.
  7. Financing, if you offer it, in plain terms. 115 of 584 remodeler homepages mentioned it.
  8. A consultation request that works on a phone, asking for the project type, the town and the timing. We check that calls and forms are tracked.
  9. A review request at handover, when the homeowner first sees the finished room, sent from your own system; each reply we draft waits for your approval. How we handle reviews and reputation.

"Mindflow Marketing has been our digital partner for 8 years, and they've been instrumental in transforming Precision Fenceworks from a small local operation to the established fence company we are today. … What impresses me most is how Youssef takes the time to understand the fencing industry specifically, not just generic marketing. Questions remodelers ask

Is this page for us, or the contractors page?
If most of your work is remodeling existing homes, such as kitchens, baths, additions or whole-home projects, this page is for you. If you run residential projects as a general contractor across many trades, see marketing for general contractors. New homes are on home builder marketing, and commercial and design-build firms on construction company marketing. The free review works the same for all four.
Should we keep a Houzz profile?
If homeowners in your towns use it, yes, and keep it accurate. In our 50-metro study, ChatGPT cited Houzz in 869 of 1,500 answers about named remodelers, against 72 of 10,482 across the other seven trades. We can't promise a profile changes what any AI tool says. We can make its name, towns, project types and photos match your site and license record. How to make the profile complete is in our remodeling marketing ideas.
Most of our work comes from referrals. Why spend on search?
Because referred homeowners check you too. The question we asked ChatGPT about each business began "A friend recommended…", the way a referral arrives, and the answers drew on government and licensing sites, review sites and the company's own site. If those are thin or disagree, a good referral can stall before the first call. Part of our work is making those records complete and consistent.
We've bought shared remodeling leads. What's different here?
Where the request goes. A shared lead puts you in a bidding round before you've met the homeowner, because the same request can reach several remodelers. Consultation requests that come through your own Business Profile, website and reviews are yours alone; Mindflow doesn't sell or share them. Our remodeling leads guide walks through the options and what each costs you in time.
What do you know about remodeling specifically?
We haven't published a remodeling client story; the story on this page is Precision Fenceworks, a Georgia fence company we worked with for 8 years. What we bring to remodeling is our own data: 50 metros of map, search and ChatGPT results for remodelers, and a study of 659 remodeler websites. The free review applies it to your towns.
How long does SEO take?
Usually months, not weeks. How fast depends on your competitors and on how complete your Business Profile and site are today.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No. No one can guarantee a spot on Google or in an AI answer. We show you the work and the results.
Is AI SEO extra?
No. AI search optimization is included in SEO in every plan.
Am I locked into a contract?
The first 90 days are committed and billed monthly. After that it's month to month with 30 days' notice.
Who owns my accounts and website?
You do. Every account stays in your name, and website files and copy are yours once paid.
Will you work with my competitor?
No. We won't work with your direct competitor in your area.
Do I need a new website?
Not always. If yours can't turn visits into calls, we'll say so and quote a site separately.
Do you run Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads?
Case by case. Our plans cover SEO, AI search, your Google Business Profile, reviews and conversion. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal. Ad spend goes to the platform and isn't part of our fee.
