HVAC PPC: Google Ads and Local Services Ads for HVAC Companies

An HVAC ad plan has two seasons to budget for, and Local Services Ads can require a background check on each technician before they run. Google Ads bills per click and Local Services Ads per lead, for AC repair, furnace repair and new systems alike. We take ads on case by case. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal, as part of a program built on SEO and your reviews.

When do ads make sense for an HVAC company?

Ads make sense for an HVAC company when you have technician hours to sell: ahead of a peak, in the shoulder months, or for replacements you can schedule. They make little sense in the weeks your board is already full, and none at all if Google asks for technician checks and the paperwork isn't done.

Good signs:

  • Open hours you want filled, for a service line you can name: AC repair, heating repair, replacements or maintenance plans.
  • A replacement page worth landing on, with brands, financing and warranty in plain words, because a new system gets compared.
  • Recent reviews.Local Services Ads put your star rating, and often how many reviews you have, right in the ad.

Not yet:

  • You're already turning calls away.Paying for more calls during a heat wave you can't serve only buys missed calls.
  • Calls and forms aren't tracked, so nobody can tell which campaign booked a system.

Ads versus the free map listing is covered in local SEO vs Local Services Ads; ads versus SEO in SEO vs PPC.

Who does Google check before an HVAC company runs Local Services Ads?

More people than in most trades. Google treats HVAC as an urgent category, so where it requires background checks, which it says apply to select users, every worker who performs your core services is checked: employees, independent contractors, temporary and contingent workers alike. Your dashboard shows what applies. Google doesn't charge for it.

What that means for an HVAC company:

  • Plan for new hires. If you add technicians before summer or winter, each one who goes to customers' homes falls under the check. Start it before the peak, not during it.
  • Re-checks change after the move.On the Local Services dashboard, Google re-evaluates advertisers and may ask you to repeat checks. Google named HVAC in the first phase of moving LSA into Google Ads, which opened to select storefront businesses in August 2026; companies without a storefront are due in late 2026, remaining accounts in 2027. Migrated accounts keep their verification and badge, and Google stops asking for insurance or license reverification. See what else changes on our Local Services Ads page.
  • What the badge shows customers is in our Google Verified entry.

Google's US list has no extra "advanced verification" for HVAC Google Ads; that applies to locksmith and garage door repair ads.

Should AC and furnace ads share one budget?

Usually not. Across the US, AC repair searches peaked in summer and furnace repair in late fall or winter in each of the last three years, months apart. One HVAC budget spends wherever the clicks are this week. Separate AC and heating campaigns, each with its own budget and page, let you push one season without starving the other.

Replacements deserve their own campaign too. A system replacement is worth far more than a repair call, and the buyer needs different answers, so it shouldn't share a budget or a landing page with "AC not cooling" searches. Selected cities' busiest and quietest months are on our HVAC marketing page.

Can HVAC ads react to a heat wave or a cold snap?

Partly. Google Ads has seasonality adjustments: you tell Smart Bidding to expect a big jump in conversion rate for a short event, ideally 1 to 7 days. On Search they work only with Target CPA or Target ROAS bidding, and Google says to use them only for major changes in conversion rate, because Smart Bidding already handles normal seasons.

How the tools line up for an HVAC company:

SituationToolGoogle's limit
A forecast heat wave or cold snap of a few daysSeasonality adjustment (Search with Target CPA or Target ROAS)Best for 1 to 7 days; may not work as well past 14 days
The whole cooling or heating seasonSeparate campaigns and budgets, changed as searches riseDaily budgets can be changed at any time
Local Services AdsWeekly budget (a daily average once your account moves into Google Ads), pause or ad scheduleMissed calls in your business hours can be charged

A seasonality adjustment raises bids; it doesn't add technicians. If your phones can't take more calls during the event, a smaller budget is the better adjustment. Budget mechanics are in our Google Ads handbook.

What should an HVAC company ask before hiring anyone to run ads?

Ask who owns the accounts, how AC and heating budgets are split, and whether your ads meet your state's license rules. Of eight HVAC PPC agency pages we read on November 1, 2026, one said the client owns the ad account, three still described the retired Google Guaranteed badge, and none mentioned Google's technician checks.

AskWhat to listen for
Are AC, heating and replacement separate campaigns?Separate campaigns, each with its own budget and landing page
What happens when we're booked solid?Budgets come down or ads pause, so you don't pay for calls you can't run
Do our ads carry our license number where the state requires it?Where it applies; Texas, for example, requires it in HVAC contractors' advertising
Are our technicians' background checks done before the season starts?Done where Google requires them, with new hires added before they go to customers' homes
Has our Local Services account moved into Google Ads, and who rechecked its settings?A date, and a named person who checked budgets, targets, service areas and lead emails

The account-ownership and billing questions every hire should answer are in our Google Ads handbook.

On the license row: Texas rule 16 TAC §75.71(h) says "All advertising by air conditioning and refrigeration contracting companies designed to solicit" business "must include the affiliated licensee's license number", with exceptions such as national TV that says numbers are available on request. It doesn't mention search ads by name, so ask the state, or your attorney, how it applies. This isn't legal advice. In our website study, 295 of 549 HVAC homepages used the word "licensed" at all.

Quick answer

How does Mindflow handle ads for an HVAC company?

Case by case, and never as an ads-only contract. Any ads sit on a program of SEO (AI search optimization included), Business Profile, review and conversion work. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal. The accounts stay in your name.

Whatever you spend on ads is paid to the platform, not to us, and no one here promises calls, rankings or a return on that spend. More on the program in SEO for HVAC companies and our PPC overview.

Before you spend on either ad type, the free AI Visibility Review lists your Business Profile gaps and sets your reviews beside your top three competitors'. It doesn't audit ad accounts.

Questions about HVAC PPC

What changes for an HVAC account when it moves into Google Ads?

HVAC is among the first categories Google named. Your weekly budget becomes a daily average, manual max-per-lead bids end, and if one campaign carried different targets for HVAC and plumbing, Google applies a single campaign-level target, so keep separate campaigns if the two need different targets. Save your performance reports first; Google says they don't carry over.

Can one Local Services account cover HVAC and plumbing?

Yes. Google lets one account carry more than one industry, and it uses plumbing and HVAC as its own example. Adding an industry prompts you to upload that industry's verification requirements, and you switch on job types for each one. Both are urgent categories, so where Google requires technician checks, they apply to both crews.

Should we advertise maintenance plans?

Only with a page that explains the plan, the price basis and what's included, because a plan is a considered purchase, not an emergency. A Search campaign aimed at tune-up and maintenance searches can send people there in the shoulder months, when technicians have time. Judge it by plans sold, not clicks.

What should an HVAC replacement ad land on?

A page about replacements, not your homepage: the systems and brands you install, the financing you actually offer, warranty terms and how an in-home estimate works. Google says Ad Rank weighs the quality of your ads and landing page, and a replacement buyer compares companies before booking, so that page does double duty.

How long does SEO take?

Usually months, not weeks. How fast depends on your competitors and on how complete your Business Profile and site are today.

Do you guarantee rankings?

No. No one can guarantee a spot on Google or in an AI answer. We show you the work and the results.

Is AI SEO extra?

No. AI search optimization is included in SEO in every plan.

Am I locked into a contract?

The first 90 days are committed and billed monthly. After that it's month to month with 30 days' notice.

Who owns my accounts and website?

You do. Every account stays in your name, and website files and copy are yours once paid.

Will you work with my competitor?

No. We won't work with your direct competitor in your area.

Do I need a new website?

Not always. If yours can't turn visits into calls, we'll say so and quote a site separately.

Do you run Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads?

Case by case. Our plans cover SEO, AI search, your Google Business Profile, reviews and conversion. When paid ads fit your market and goals, we scope Google Ads, Local Services Ads or ChatGPT ads in your proposal. Ad spend goes to the platform and isn't part of our fee.
