Local links that actually exist

Sponsorships, associations, suppliers and local press. Unglamorous, obtainable, and roughly the whole realistic list.

Short answer: the local links that actually exist are sponsorships, trade associations, suppliers and manufacturers, chambers of commerce and local business groups, and local press. That is close to the whole realistic list for a local trade. Start by claiming the supplier and association listings you are already entitled to.

Key takeaways
  • Link advice written for software companies does not apply to a local trade.
  • Sponsorships, associations, suppliers, chambers, local press. That is the list.
  • Most contractors have supplier listings they never claimed.
  • No quotas, no bought links, no guest-post networks.

Why does most link advice not apply to a local trade?

Most link-building advice is written for a different kind of company than a local trade. Link-building content is written for software companies chasing coverage. A fencing contractor in Bogart is not getting a link from a national title, and pursuing one wastes the quarter.

The links available to a local trade are local, and there are fewer of them than any tool suggests.

Which local links are actually reachable?

Five sources cover almost all of it: sponsorships, trade associations, suppliers and manufacturers, chambers of commerce and local business groups, and local press. None of them are glamorous, all of them are obtainable, and the table below is the realistic list in full.

The link sources a local trade can realistically reach, as Mindflow works them. This is Mindflow’s own list, not an inventory published by any outside body.
Link source What it is in practice
SponsorshipsYouth teams, school events, local charities. Usually a small cheque and a listing page, and the relationship is real.
Trade associationsMembership directories, often with a profile you control.
Suppliers and manufacturersDealer locators and installer directories. Frequently already available to you and unclaimed.
Chambers of commerce and local business groupsMembership listings you apply for locally.
Local pressReachable when you have something that is actually news, which is rarer than agencies imply.

What should you do first?

Start with the listings you have already earned and never finished. Claim what you are already entitled to. Most contractors we audit have supplier and association listings they never completed, which is the cheapest link work available and nobody has done it.

Then check where your competitors are listed and you are not.

What will Mindflow not do to build links?

We will not do three things that are commonly sold as link building. Buy links, place guest posts on networks, or hit a monthly link quota. Quotas produce the kind of links that need disavowing later, and we would rather report a slow month than manufacture one.

This does mean our link numbers look unimpressive next to an agency selling volume. That is the trade.

“Quotas produce the kind of links that need disavowing later, and we would rather report a slow month than manufacture one.”

The protocol behind every check we run is published before we run it: read the full method.

Rankings are never guaranteed. Anything we could not trace to a primary source is absent from this page, not estimated. The audit runs the same six layers described on the pricing page, and Share of Answer is scored quarterly.
